Of all the flowers, none calls so many opposite meanings as the rose; its records go from the ardor and the desire to the innocence and friendship, from the sensual use, the vitality and the appetite of being, to the mystical resignation, the balance of the perfection and the shining eternity.

Se abren primero uno o dos botones
Después,
un racimo aquí otro alla;
hasta que al calor de una tarde
y, mientras las nubes se llenan de sol,
toda la jacaranda …
es flor.

Desnudo al atardecer, 2001
Every painting, is an act of love, every word written by Lucille is an act of faith, where shape and life interact, with the synthesis and the difficult facility of a modern visual and written Haiku; the always present east begins to show from its ancestral past and manages inside an impressive simplicity, the polysemy of multiple meanings: the poem leads to the painting and having observed it, we return, curious to read the written and everything takes a new, different, much wider dimension, has managed to magnify the horizon of our sensations.

Flor de Nochebuena, 2002
Lucille Wong is the first and perhaps the only painter who has delivered to us a poetical and dazzling vision of the Coatlixóchitl. The intense and bloodied cycle by the glare of the solar deity, whence comes the flower of Christmas Eve, does not deal with the documentary description, with the anecdotal history, but with the exploration of the forgotten and unpublished territories of the spirit …

Lost in the memory I have the blurred image of a visit to the Nevado de Toluca in my childhood. I remember nothing of the way, nor of my permanence for a few hours, I suppose, in the crater. However, what I hold is that precise moment to reach the edge of the crater and perceive a crucible.

2004. The Autonomous National University of Mexico, inside the celebrations of Fifty years of the University campus, published the Guide of Murals that reunites part of the artistic treasure of the institution, and include the Mural Galope in silence.

What retains and materializes Lucille Wong in her illuminations does not stagnate in the surface: it is stratification and vein, telluric record of the bites of time, and full testimony of an adult eye that has been transported from the glare to lucidity.

THE VOLCANO, THE STONE AND THE LIGHT

Exhibition Scorched Time, in the Fine Arts Museum of Toluca, México
Nobody can with a confused language illuminate opaque scenes or gloomy, cloudy places, either belong to man or to mythologies, past or present. And what is difficult facing the enigmatic and the incomprehensible becomes arduous and rough in front simplicity; as pure happiness or the elementary ground. I believe that clarity is the key of Lucille Wong.

… the plenitude of equivocal or imperfect form and the victory of the woman when the reflection of the line transfigures her into water, fire, wind, night enchantress, spring, zenith, harvest. This ambience, precariously described, is the real substance of the nude, the challenge that throws to the gaze. Under the influence of the western traditions, the man, although not excluded, occupies quantitatively a background. The explanation is simple, Robin Bond’s workshop never missed women models. On the other hand, the male models were scarce.

In all the nudes there is clear the pretension to go thoroughly, to reach the deep foundations and the ambivalent interior, luminous or in darkness, of a forbidden enclosure, strange, away from us and that only the creative intuition is capable of revealing. By the uncertain environment which envelops it, by the occult resonances which awakes and by the fusion and mixture and opposition of sleep and vigil, innocence and perversion, radiance and darknesses, taboos and desecrations, the territory of the bodies exposed has always been a sacred area wrapped with the inaccessible aureole of the secret. However, this enclosure, rough and tender at the same time, has its borders opened for happiness or pain; desperation or balance, serenity or anguish …
